Private Plane Controversie[editar]

William Awad was criticized internationally for one of his events, organized by his company 111 Private Club. He runs a party in a private plane to celebrate New Year 2022.

The party ran from December 30, 2021, to January 5, 2022, with a route that departed from Canada and arrived in Cancun, Mexico.

On the flight were several influencers, who in the images that went viral, it was noticed that they did not follow COVID's safety measures, such as social distancing or the use of masks.

After the event was over, CBC reported that William Awad assured that the airline contracted for the party, Sunwing Airlines, allowed its passengers to relax and be in a drunken state on the flight, regardless of the sanitation measures. Also, he reportedly said that all the passengers were tested negative in a PCR test before attending the event.

For its part, Sunwing responded by refusing to bring the passengers back and revealed that William Awad did not want to accept the imposed terms and conditions that were agreed when he acquired its services. Other airlines, such as Air Canada and Air Transat, also refused to transport members of the private party back to Canada.

William Awad, at a subsequent press conference, stated that he will be considering legal actions against the three airlines. He argued that the passengers had to return to Canada on an alternative flight a week after the agreed date, passing through the United States and Panama.

William Awad apologized for the events on the flight but explained that each person who attended the event must take responsibility for their actions in case of sanctions by the Canadian government.

As per CBC, Canada's federal departments of Transport, Public Safety and Health launched investigations into the incident. Transport Canada said passengers could be fined up to US$5,000 for each offense committed on board the aircraft

In addition, the penalties could go as far as imprisonment, if any person involved were found to have been endangering others or to have provided falsified information upon their return to Canada.

Other Controversies[editar]

William Awad has had other controversies in his career. In February 2022, just after the incident with his party organized in a private plane, one of his Rolls-Royces was seized and towed by the police on the north coast of Canada.

According to William Awad in an interview for CTV News, the problem was that he failed to cancel the value of an outstanding fine. "I forgot to pay a fine while I was on vacation”, he said, adding that it was a speeding ticket.

Also, the mayor of Bois-des-Filion, Gilles Blanchette, told the Journal de Montréal that William Awad is being investigated for construction without a permit.
